Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) to Expire 12/31/10
Congress adjourned without renewing the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program which is set to expire at midnight on December 31, 2010. Therefore, starting January 1, 2011 duties will be collected on GSP products from beneficiary countries.
A short-term extension of the Andean Trade Promotion and Drug Eradication Act (ATPDEA) was passed allowing for duty-free treatment to continue for certain products originating in Columbia and Ecuador. The same extension was afforded to the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program. Both will expire on February 15, 2011 unless further action is taken by the new Congress.
