New Export Violations Penalties to Begin February 1, 2009
As published by U.S. Customs & Border Protection on January 2, 2009, new penalties for violations under the Foreign Trade Regulations will become effective on February 1st.
The FTR establishes requirements for filing export declarations and mandates the pre-departure electronic filing of export data through the "Automated Export System" (AES) for all reportable shipments. Penalties up to $10,000 per violation may be imposed for a failure to file, for late filing, and for erroneous reporting of such electronic data.
CVI currently files customer EEI through AES and is already meeting the new filing deadlines. For more information on mandatory AES, please contact your CVI management or visit: http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/aes/mandatory/index.html
