Deadline for Ocean Container Seals will be October 15, 2008
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has mandated the use of International Standards Organization (ISO) 17712-compliant mechanical seals on all ocean containers entering the U.S. after October 15, 2008. This may be the first step toward future implementation of ISO 18185 “e-seals.” Electronic seals utilize active radio frequency identification (RFID) to allow real-time location and tracking of ocean containers.
