Enforcement Action Possible on Auto Parts from China
February 2012 - The Alliance for American Manufacturing has released new findings linking diminishing US automotive employment with trading practices in China's automotive industry, prompting expectations that the Obama Administration may take action against Chinese auto part imports. The AAM claims that China maintains "predatory trade practices" intended to boost its auto industry, including “generous government subsidies, performance requirements for foreign investors, technology transfers, discrimination against imported goods, restrictions on raw material exports, and priority support for exports of vehicles and parts." The AAM has expressed its support for new enforcements, which may include duty petitions, issuance of grievances to the World Trade Organization, and/or action by the future interagency Trade Enforcement Unit.
