CVI to Participate in JOC’s East Coast Maritime Conference: “Demurrage on Government Holds: Perception vs. Reality”
Venetia Huffman, Vice President, Operations & Compliance for CV International, will be participating in a panel discussion focusing on demurrage in cases of government holds at the 4th Annual East Coast Maritime Conference. The conference will be hosted by the Journal of Commerce and the Virginia Port Authority September 24 through 25, 2007 in Virginia Beach, VA.
The Conference will provide shippers with a comprehensive overview of container logistics opportunities on the East Coast. The program will cover the challenges and benefits of moving Asia cargo through Panama and Suez canals, competing for European cargo and emerging markets such as the Middle East and Africa.
The panel discussion on demurrage is described in the program materials: “As pressure mounts for higher terminal throughput, the supply chain's most vulnerable bottleneck may be at the security gate. When demurrage is charged on government holds, who pays? This issue has become a major point of contention between shippers, carriers, forwarders and port. Speakers will discuss potential solutions to maintaining a seamless supply chain.”
